As long as I have patience to work on a 10-year horizon (and more) I don’t have to get stressed that I don’t have results or recognition now, or next month, or this year. And It’ll be ok to show up everyday for a long time without anything external seeming to change. It’ll be ok to show up and just do the work.

The first draft is complete at 40,000 words and I was given another nugget of help by the subconscious.

Your body knows more than you do, so be sure to always listen.

Whenever I get stuck I write some god awful scenes with two of my characters taking a long walk until they figure out what the hell is going on.

I’ll cut 99% of these scenes in the next draft but I’ll never get there if I stop writing.

A month from now you won’t even know which writing was done on days that felt good and which writing was done on days that felt like a struggle.

I’m reading Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Rebel Without A Crew’ which is basically his blog-style account of how he made is first film, El Mariachi for $7,000 when he was in film school.

So I’m doing my own version as I go about figuring out how to write my first novel.
